“Accountability breeds response-ability”

-Stephen Covey

In this newsletter, we focus on the importance of accountability.  Leaders are responsible for setting the overall direction of their organizations, and they are expected to ensure their organizations’ sustainability and success.  We recognize that leaders, managers, and employees must be held accountable for contributing to team goals in order to enhance the probability of success.

One key step to ensure accountability is securing the appropriate buy-in for peers, direct reports, and other key stakeholders.  Including these individuals in strategy formulation processes improves their willingness to contribute to the organization’s goals.  Their participation in strategy development also improves their ability to deliver – they have clearly articulated expectations, and they understand how their efforts contribute to the overall organization.

Furthermore, it is close to impossible to ensure accountability if outcomes are not measured.  Internal data-gathering about employee opinions and assessment of commitment is essential to continuous improvement processes.  We explore different methods of developing and implementing strategic measurement and control systems in this issue of The Hill Group’s newsletter.

As always, we invite your feedback and questions.  Please feel free to contact me at cbrussalis@hillgroupinc.com or 412.722.1111.
