Chris W. Brussalis, President & CEO

Chris Brussalis is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Hill Group, Inc., a management consulting firm serving major corporations and governments. The firm has been a premier provider of counsel and advice in strategy and management since 1953. The Hill Group specializes in strategy, operations, performance and diagnostic measurement, and organizational development. The firm serves a wide range of clients in business and government from several Fortune 500 corporations to state governments. Chris has technical knowledge, academic expertise, and practical experience in planning, economic analysis, policy development, leadership, and management.
In addition to his duties at The Hill Group, Chris is also Adjunct Professor of Management and Policy at the Heinz School of Policy and Management, Carnegie Mellon University. Professor Brussalis also served as chairman of the economic development faculty with the Tri-State Leadership Academy, housed at West Virginia University, where he developed curriculum and lectured in strategic planning, management, leadership, and economic development for a Kellogg Foundation project. Professor Brussalis’ teaching focuses on strategic planning and policy analysis. He also has numerous publications and papers on management and policy issues to his credit. As a manifestation of his philosophy of interdisciplinary decision making and problem solving, Chris holds a Bachelor of Science from Allegheny College, Meadville, Pennsylvania. He also holds a Master of Arts in public and business administration from the University of Illinois where he also studied for his Doctor of Philosophy in regional planning and economics.
Chris Brussalis has provided counsel in strategy, leadership, management, organizational performance, and sales productivity for several Fortune 500 corporations and governments including Alcoa, Rubbermaid, IBM, Marconi, Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), ITW, Northwestern Mutual Life, PNC Financial Services Group, National City Bank, State Farm, Federated Investors, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Conemaugh Health System, General Nutrition, Totes, AGL Resources, Dominion Resources, Columbia Gas, Superior Court of California, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, State of Maryland, and Mexico to name a few. He also has extensive experience and expertise in stakeholder participation processes and has testified as an expert witness on public policy, development, and planning issues.
Chris is very active in civic and community issues. He serves on several boards and is active in regional economic development in western Pennsylvania. Chris served as Managing Director of the New Idea Factory, the economic development transition in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and the surrounding region which was the largest transition effort of a metropolitan region in the history of the United States. He is also directing a similar regional economic development initiative to align the workforce development infrastructure in that region and several others around the United States. Chris is on the board of American Society for Competitiveness, Leadership Pittsburgh (Chairman), Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, Eberly College of Business at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Waynesburg University MBA Program, and serves a general officer of his fraternity to name a few. Chris has served as Vice President of the Institute of Management Consultants for Western Pennsylvania, Chairman of the Annual Fund at Allegheny College, and was active in Rotary International, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project, and Pittsburgh Young Professionals for over a decade. He is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, a network of regional leaders and decision makers.
Chris was chosen by the Pittsburgh Business Times as one of the region’s top 20 “Changemakers”, by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of the region’s top “40 Under 40”, and was recognized as one of “Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest”. He received a Blue Citation from Allegheny College for a lifetime of outstanding service to his alma mater. Chris was also selected by the Secretary of the Air Force as one of 100 distinguished American leaders to attend the forty-seventh annual National Security Forum at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base.
