October 2003 - The Hill Group, Inc. was honored earlier this month to present one of its workforce development strategy models to Assistant Secretary Emily Stover DeRocco, Employment and Training Administration United States Department of Labor. Chris Brussalis and Alyson Cole were joined by Maryland Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Jim Fielder and a delegation from the State of Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and Governor's Workforce Investment Board.

Assistant Secretary DeRocco invited The Hill Group, Inc. and the Maryland team to present to her and the USDOL Business Relations Group, a detailed account of the strategy used to create the Maryland Governor's Healthcare Workforce Summit held on August 28, 2003 in Annapolis, MD. 

The Hill Group, Inc. was able to assist the Maryland Governor's Workforce Investment Board by utilizing the Workforce Summit concept as a tool to catalyze workforce strategy and create collaborative solutions targeted at the Maryland healthcare industry. For the first time in Maryland, the Summit brought together over 160 key stakeholders in the healthcare industry - employers, educators, licensing and certification organizations, and the public sector - with the common goal of developing plans to deal with the workforce crisis in Maryland's healthcare industry.

Secretary DeRocco served as a featured speaker at the Maryland Governor's Healthcare Workforce Summit and was impressed with the strategy and Maryland's vision to implement such a collaborative healthcare workforce enterprise. During the Summit, DeRocco addressed the participants and expressed her praise for the project. Secretary DeRocco state, "I think it is a template for the nation. It is in the fact, the single state event that is mirroring what the Bush administration is trying to do across the country in the growth sectors of our economy."
