Chris W. Brussalis, President & CEO |
This edition of The Hill Group’s newsletter
examines the transformation of our workforce. We
are encountering the most diverse workforce the world
has seen, both in terms of traditional metrics such
as age, gender, race and ethnicity, and in aspects
not as easily measured such as learning styles and
communication preferences. We recognize that
the most successful organizations are those that
anticipate, embrace, and plan for the needs of a
changing workforce. In this newsletter, we
provide several approaches to improve your organization’s
ability to create a culture supportive of changing
workforce needs.
Organizations must be in tune to the needs and dynamics
of their markets. It is essential that each
organization’s culture is supportive and embraces
the dynamics needed to provide goods and services
in an ever-changing marketplace. Workforces
also must be responsive and diverse in expertise,
experience, and background. It is difficult-to-impossible
to manage what you do not measure; therefore, organizations
need to establish targets and metrics in order to
be responsive and continually improve. Organizations
also must benchmark themselves against peer and aspirant
organizations. From these activities, they
can identify and apply best practices.
Each approach is valuable in building a sustainable,
vibrant organization. These practices
can be integrated into your organization’s
planning processes. This allows senior executives,
managers, and front-line employees to provide input
on how changing workforce dynamics may affect attraction,
training, measurement, and other key initiatives. Incorporating
proactive workforce planning into your organization’s
overall strategy ensures key stakeholder commitment
and accountability.
We welcome your comments on any of the topics included
in this newsletter, and encourage you to share any
other approaches your organization has used to embrace
workforce changes. Please feel free to contact
