Message from the President
Chris W. Brussalis, President & CEO

In this edition of Innovation and Insight we examine the importance and dynamics of celebrating milestones.  Milestones define success.  They signify accomplishment and provide a time to reflect on the past, celebrate reaching current goals, and look forward to future achievements.  Milestones, however, also present an important opportunity to reevaluate the path taken to achieve current goals and to set out a vision and plan that will ensure the goals continue and grow.  As a Pittsburgh-based firm, we join our city in celebrating its 250th birthday and taking time to reflect and plan for the future.  Local and national corporations, organizations, and communities can take a cue from Pittsburgh to do the same.  This newsletter provides suggestions for ways to capitalize on milestones and use them to build the foundation for future success.

One way corporations can capitalize on milestones is by using them as a time to examine and identify drivers of success.  What got you where you are today?  In his article, Jordan Pallitto discusses a number of tools and methods for evaluating organizations and the importance of a plan for continuous improvement.

Employees are truly what make organizations successful.  In their articles, Jaime Bongiorno and Kelly Glass discuss how organizations can utilize milestones to recognize employee contributions and, simultaneously, tap into new pools of workers to enhance their workforce.

Externally, organizations can use milestones to promote their successes and reach new audiences, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.  Molly Kwiatkowski discusses how marketing around a milestone can increase profits or enhance development efforts.

Each of these strategies is important for organizational success and makes the most of company milestones.  These strategies can be integrated into an organization-wide strategic planning process to maximize their benefits to the fullest capacity.  A strategic plan will not only ensure that milestones are defined, celebrated, and capitalized on, but that all aspects, resources, and activities of an organization are focused on success.
